General Meeting Minutes
November 13, 2019
6:30 pm

In Attendance:
*Board Members: Stacey McGuigan (President), Kristen Werden (Treasurer), Silvia Mcclellan (Elementary VP), Monika Mirsalis (Middle School VP), Heather Valentino (High school VP) Sara Campbell (Secretary), Brian Patrick (Principal)

6:33 pm meeting called to order.

Presidents Report:

Online Spirit Wear store is open online (wesoipto.org). Closes on 11/22. Orders will be delivered 12/12.
Committee Chairs:
Volunteer Committee- Melissa Solema
Outside Social Events- Mary Long
Community Outreach- Maureen Frey
In School Events/parties- Mary Zalar

Marco’s Pizza- Soi has profited $563.12 between September-November.
Third Grade won the pizza party with most amount of orders. They had 47 orders in 3 months.

Vice President Report:

Elementary VP:

Halloween parties were a success.
Christmas Party will be held on 12/20 at 1:30pm



Middle School VP:

Working with 8th grade on their upcoming Field Trip.
If you wish to volunteer, you must be part of the volunteer committee. Please contact Melissa Solema to sign up.

High School VP:

No report

Treasurer:

Treasurer reported on profit and loss statement (shown on the projector). We are currently still in the black.
Patterson’s Boo Breakfast was a profit, more so than expected, so ticket sales may possibly be lower next year.
Columbus trip- PTO executivley made the decision to pay for bussing, up to our limits that we are allowed, for the trip. Will be paying just under $1500 for bussing- any extra will be paid for by the chaperones.
Sign ups for drama club. An additional $510.00 has been collected than what is shown on the current profit and loss sheet ($240 shown on current sheet).
Still in the black, which we expect to stay due to doing so well on the Fun Run.



Principals Report:

Due to the levy failure on November 5th, there have been significant cuts to the district. SOI Highschool will not continue in school year 20/21. If you want more information, there are two levy meetings on Thursday (November 14) at the BOE. Information can also be found at supportweschools.org Community wide survey can also be found on that site.
Technology purchases have been made, most have arrived. Thank you to the PTO for donating to make those purchases. Will be hearing more about those soon.
Two service projects currently happening within the building.
Leadership Lake County - Taking donations for school supplies or monetary donations for children who don’t have school supplies- this drive ends on friday.
Willoughby Eastlake Food Pantry- Soi is in charge of collecting and stocking paper products. This ends Friday, Nov. 22.
Holiday stocking project. Email was sent out to parents. Children can get a stocking and fill for a child in need for Christmas.

Committee Report:

Stacey presented report for Jodi McCue regarding BOO Breakfast. Boo Breakfast was a success. Leftover crafts from the event went to 6th grade.

Other Business:

1. Jeanie Fleming Gifford presented information regarding the elementary drama program. Working with grades 3-5 with about 40 students.
Pamphlet passed out with information about Fairmount Center for the Arts.
Six week program. Kids are working on different monologues, performing together, memorization... Informal sharing day will be held.
Fairmount is having an open house on Jan 11, 10am-12pm.

2. Presentation by Jessica Lipold regarding assisting your gifted student. Slideshow with strategies for assisting elementary, middle, and highschool students shown on the projector.

3. Presentation by Krissy Klouda regarding levy committee information. Two levy meetings being held Thursday (Nov 14). Meetings are a chance to express concerns, get questions answered, and come together and brainstorm. Can contact Krissy if needing more information. Can join Facebook site called Ohioans for Improved School Funding for further information regarding funding and ideas. Would love to get more people on the levy committee.

Upcoming Events:

Book Fair- December 4th, 5th, and 6th. Will need volunteers for that. Please contact volunteer committee.
Family Bowling Night- Sunday, March 8th at Wickliffe Lanes.
First Community Outreach Meeting- November 19th at 6:30 pm at SOI.
Next PTO Meeting Wednesday, December 11th at 6:30 pm.
